I am planning to get a friend to video the face-to-face book launch and use that as the basis of a YouTube virtual book launch.

  • Matthew Selznick and Mur Lafferty did something similar for their recent releases for Swarm Press. They added special content such as short stories based on the universes each book is sent in, as well as answer questions from fans. The build up to those releases managed to sell a lot of books on the release date.

  • Hey! Paul is a cutie!

I use a web conferencing site called dimdim. It's free for up to 20 participants. I have a pro version which allows me to customize the display and have many more participants. You get audio/video and recording.

If you are going to host one, (video) make sure the background is professional looking. No jackets, dirty dishes , or dead plants behind you. The camera sees EVERYTHING. Run a couple rehearsals to check the sound and video quality. If you use a headseat with mic make sure there is no hollow sound or echo.

  • Thanks Robin. I will pass on your feedback to Paul. He will be very happy. Also I will check out DimDim too. And yes for the next video I am going to get rid of the dead plant :-) Dale

  • Thanks Dale, a virtual book tour is something I'm going to look into. Loving the new microphone, it saved me a new set of speakers :-) The only time I ever put the volume up on my PC is to listen to GetPublishedTV and I thought the buzzing was at my end.

Virtual book tours sounds like a very interesting idea. I guess it would be kind of like the teleclasses you have done before, except there could be video involved as well. New mic sounds good to, maybe a bit bulky but you gotta do what you gotta do.

  • Thanks Dale! As always... great ideas! Especially liked the concept of the 'world tour'. :)

  • Thanks Cath for stopping by and leaving your comments on GetPublishedTV.com
