Thank you so much for this video in particular!!!
    It's all coming together now.
This is a very important video- i'm glad I've made it to episode 53 :)

I thought that the decision to self-publish closes doors to regular publishing but now it all makes sense.
Print On Demand was mentioned by one of guests in a previous episode and now that you've explained it getting my work published seems all the more achievable- infact pretty much every episode of GPTV has that effect.

    Now on to episode 54
Thank you so much for the time and thought you are putting into these videos Dale,
    Your Friendly Neighborhood Usman
  • Increasingly, many of the "Print-On-Demand" services also offer a wide variety of marketing options, and will organize ISBN numbering, copyrights, Amazon.com and similar listings, Kindle renditions, etc. These are especially interesting for those who right technical guide or textbooks, with specific (and finite) audiences.
  • Another brilliant episode, thanks Dale. I'm currently at "second base" with my first novel and will probably go the same way with the second. The thought of approaching a major publisher feels too much like hard work at this stage, but it is something I might try out once I have a proven track record.

I'm really glad you did this episode because I was still under the illusion that once you've self-published the majors won't look twice at your work.
  • Yes this is a big Myth...

"I'm really glad you did this episode because I was still under the illusion that once you've self-published the majors won't look twice at your work."

Prove to the majors that you can make it on your own and then they will WANT to publish you.

    Talk soon,

    Dale

From what I hear the book Eragon was self published, then picked up by a major publisher.

From what I have learned, if you make money the big dogs will want a piece of that, so they may be very inclined to sign with you.

Really enjoyed this segment. I'm hoping to get my book published (first one) so I would like to see your baseball theme expand. For example, if I'm considering 1st base (e-book), I would like to see that area explored more. Maybe illustrate, how to market, etc.
Hmmm...thinking abit more, I see a baseball team forming as potential ebiz opportunity.

zfridas, if you take a look at Smashwords, they have a free ebook about marketing your book. It's quite useful. I'm aiming at having my first book digitally published by them. I love the information on Get Published. I could spend hours watching these vids and not write!
  • Hi zfridas. Check out our recent shows where we've gone into E-books (Digital) books in a lot more detail. Talk soon, Dale

I don't know if its your mic or my speakers but for some reason im only getting sound out of one side. Hopefully the next episode is back to normal. I have a question about the digital format. I know people have to buy your book, but are the royalties a lot less then someone actually buying your book in a store? And does the author have to pay anything for their book to be digital or is it entirely free?
  • Hi Connor, In light our new shows have you now got answers to these questions. If not let me know and I will help you out. Cheers, Dale
  • Connor
I think I got it now, thanks mate.
