V A L U B L E Info. I love how you share your tips in a demostrative way to aid in greater understanding for your listeners. I did not know about the paper issue. And it makes sense to go to a specialist than your local printing place. The specialist knows all the ins& outs, twist and what works best because that's their field.

I'm randomly going through the " Favorit Episodes" alongside. Visiting subject titles of intrest. I said to myself let me go here, it might be something. The last 3 had a wealth of info. He's on a good track with me. Let me not pass the "paper" title up, lol.

Whola! I invested good time in checking this episode out and not passing it up :). Even the simplicity of "paper" you supplied a word of knowledge my way. Thanks

P.S I hope you get that time management down pack, though I don't mind you running over.

    bless, bless

Dale, why don't you allow yourself more time if you keep going over 8 minutes. I could watch hours of your show, in fact, I am .
  • Thanks Dale, I realise this was published last year, so you may not get notifications when people comment. I know you mentioned thinner paper is better for graphics, such as photos. What about more simple line drawings with colour, the detail in the drawings is much a like a comic book. Would thinner or bulky paper suit best?

    Thanks Jen,

Hello, I'm Andreea from Romania and I would like to ask you what kind of paper would be better for a children book? You said that the thinner type of paper is better for the graphics, but isn't there also a shinny kind of paper for those books?

    Thank you.

...fantastic, it was really interesting to learn paper quality, but also; what graphics to use for my first book. BIG thank you from Florida - USA

  • Alina Alves Caria
    Hello,

My name is Alina and i am 29 years old. I am not a native English speacker, so sorry for any mistakes.
I am from Romania and i started to write while i was preagnent and i had a lot of free time. I just finished my first book and i have a lot of confidence that it will be a succes, because it has that unique touch you mentioned. Also i knew that i can miss my goal if i am not prepared enough for the whole process and if i will not take the right decisions till the end. So i started to look for answeres and thank God i found you!
I have to say that you are very charismatic and explain very well so anyone can understand and use this important informations.
I don't want to keep you longer because for sure you have a lot of messages to read .
Thank you for sharring all this with us and God bless you!

    Best regards,
    Alina
  • Well done. I found this a nice and simple explanation on some paper stock. I think its good that you explained the difference on thickness and bleed. My preference is a little thinner for sharpe edges. But that's my own preference.

Really helped me with my choice of paper Dale.
Mine is all text so I will go with the bulky paperback.

    Great stuff,

    Thanks,

    Very important information here.
Also, there is more to reading a book then just reading a book. Sometimes, I enjoy reading outside where I can hear the sounds of the birds chirping in the trees, the smell of the flowers in bloom, and the feeling of the wind brushing over my skin. I would say every reader has his or her special places where they enjoy reading.

I mention this because I believe it is very important for the author to be sensitive to this experience of reading. The texture, color, smell, size, font, etc. of the book all contribute to the overall satisfaction of the reading experience. How do all these attributes add to the experience of your book? You have spent so much energy, time, and heart into writing a book, so don't stop the writing at the computer. Continue writing your story or message throughout the design of the book. I see it as another medium to channel your story or message through, so use it!

Dale, thank you so much for the show and your will to share all this information with us. Your advices are incredibly useful and together with your enthusiasm help me to think more seriously about writing a book. Especially this episode dropped my jaw down. I have never realized that type of paper may allow you to charge more for a book, only because it seems thicker!

And last but not least, if you keep an episode 10-11 minutes long, that is even better in my opinion than 8 minutes (which anyway is a bit hard to keep, as we see :)

LOL - don't apologise for going over time.... it takes up time ;-)

    Loving the series tho!!

Dale ~ I am enjoying your show. As a first time author I find it extrely informative. Looking forward to your next show.
  • The reason that the ink bleeds more is because they put more air in it. The ink moves through the air more in the bulky paper.

I suppose this is why Dale's course has so much information. With so many decisions to make these videos are a great way to get an inside peek at everything. Great idea with the episodes Dale, keep them coming.
  • yeh there most definitely is a lot of decisions to make. we're trying to help guide people through them to help them get their book published and out there as soon as possible
  • Jonno Horten
