Amazing videos, Dale. Keep up the good work!

I was wondering if you knew anything about 'Business Catalyst'? It's supposed to be a hosted CMS that builds online businesses. I've been thinking of setting up a website using this and if you ever get the time to review it, I would love to hear what your thoughts regarding it are.

Thank you for your time, and I look forward to more of your videos! :)

  • Hi Dale, and thanks again for your great videos!

I mentioned this in a previous comment I left, but since this video is specifically about websites, I'll mention the service I use.

It's an awesome service because it includes everything, from domain registration to hosting to top of the line ebusiness tools to really get you rolling.
And you don't have to be an expert at all.

The following link is a video tour of their services (less than 80 cents US a day):

The following link provides a ton of great examples of extremely successful sites built using SBI! (top 1% ranking, actually):

What's great about this is that it reduces further marketing costs to practically $0, as it allows you to get awesome traffic straight from Google search results, while building your database through mailing lists (included in the package), forms, etc. The service also includes RSS syndication, social bookmarking tools, Web 2.0 to receive comments and submissions, and a long list of additional goodies, including an awesome community of successful and ever so helpful web-business owners.

It's funny that I've been doing precisely as you suggest: my book is nowhere near finished, but I now have a top 5% ranking website (Alexa) and a decent database to kick-start things as soon as my book is out.
If anyone is interested, check out my site at www.guitar-theory-in-depth.com

    Cheers!

A typo! that is, already "made" a post!

Very informative!! I discovered this program while looking for ways to market my book, JPAC the Last One Out. I used Booksurge which has become create space. Now that all 736 pages of my novel are in print, it's marketing time!
Will look forward to your videos. I have already make a post on twitter about your site to all of my author friends.
    Cheers!

    Thanks Dale,
I was delaying making a website until my book was done but i see why it must be done early.

Great info Dale. A trustworthy professional I recommend is Dominic DaAssuncao in Vancouver, Canada. His company creates, develops, and implements custom programs for major private clients, ie., hospitals, cancer agency, businesses, etc. He is a fantastic resource for anyone looking for guidance. Contact info: medwerks.ca or dominic.daassuncao@shaw.ca

    Hope this helps your viewers,

This is great Dale. I have been procrastinating over a website for ages and this is the kick up the pants I need. I have finished writing my book and just getting the cover design and typesetting done, then to the printer. I need a website as I have a big marketing compaign planned for Victoria then the rest of Oz.

Thanks for your guidance. As the Nike ad says 'Just Do It!
    Keep up the great work,

    Kevin Mc

  • I LOVE Blue Host as my website hosting account. They are super friendly and helpful for newbies and do-it-yourselfers.

    Hi Debra
I am in Australia. Would Blue Host be ok for me? Are you in the USA or Australia?

    Many thanks,

    Kevin

  • Great overview, Dale. I agree that WordPress websites are the BEST because of their flexibility and ease of use. For authors who want to be in control and create a website without a WEBMASTER, I highly recommend Christina Hills' Website Creation Workshop. She is a thorough instructor for newbies to experienced. A new class starts in September. http://tinyurl.com/wcwxtina

Keep up the great work at Get Published TV.

Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge and experience. It's awesome information and very inspiring to see you doing it! Think it's now time for me to have a go.

Thanks again and I look forward to watching more of your episodes.

  • Sounds like you have a bit of a cold or allergy flaring up. Perhaps it's the dying plant behind the whiteboard that is bothering you. <smile>

I use Yahoo to host my domain. Their basic package is reasonably priced. They offer a program called Site Builder which provides templates to work with. If you are going to build your own page you need to be ready to spend the time to do it. Otherwise, invest in a Web designer. I am not promoting my book on my page yet, it isn't completed.

I understand the point of promoting your book before it's complete. For me, an otherwise assertive person, I find the idea intimidating.

    Hi.

I work with small communit groups and I often suggest to them buying all they need form one place, a single ISP (internet servic e provider).

For around £30 a year or so they can have a basic package and only have a single point of contact should anything go wrong with the site.

  • Email message that came in from India...

Dale you are doing a great service to writers like me, who are trying to get established. Keep up the good work.

I will keep you informed about my progress.

    Thank you,

Yaaaaaay, loyal viewers . With living in Canada I have to watch these episodes when I get home from work and the time difference is most likely why I'm not the first one to leave a comment. I will beat you one day though Tommy, count on it ;).
Great episode Dale. I don't have a website yet but I did just start a blog. I'm sure it all helps. The info in this episode got the wheels in my head turning though, have to write the ideas down. By the way, it sounds like you might have a sore throat or something, unless the sound is just off. If you are sick then I hope you get well soon and not fall behind on episodes. I enjoy them very much. See you next time around.
