  • Great episode, I agree, I feel there will always be a place for ebooks and real books. Personally I like to have a bookshelf filled with books, and with ebooks, you couldn't really have a library, there is something about a library that inspires me :)

This was a great overview of technology changes. I agree with you about reading a physical book at the end of the day. I too like to have a book in my hands and get away from the computer screen. However, my children are growing up with the internet and hate to pick up a real book. They prefer their content on a screen.

Thanks for sharing Dale !! I really like your series..E books are awful..I think that staring at a computer screen for hours on end throughout the day..is dumbing down our population..and it is damaging peoples eyes..lol..There is nothing better than opening a well bound book ! The tactile and visual elements of a hardcopy book is not something that a battery powered device can give you.. I feel that we need to get kids back to reading books..and reading outloud...we are forgetting the craft of Literature ! Long live the Binderies and Printshops,..editors,..publishers and illustrators !! Vive et biblios !!

To kill one of your points, most newspapers are closing their printing down. Soon the New York Times are only going to put the paper online.

    Hi Dale,

Enjoying every episode offered. I'd like to ask how you feel about voice-books? As a musician, sound is a priority in my work. As an educator, I'd like to mention that people learn/absorb info in a variety of ways.

Also, regarding your request for feedback, being a pioneer takes great energy, vision, conviction and faith. You are appreciated! ~ Joyce

NOTHING beats sitting down and reading a physical book. Things might get more entertaining somehow with E-books but you still can't beat a good old fashioned paper book. I'm writing one and there might be a few different mediums I sell it through but the main one will be paper. Another good video Dale.
  • thanks Connor. yeh definitely try different mediums out
  • Good stuff re e-books, but I'm left wanting more detail:

What formatting is required for e-books, and how is security or copyright maintained (e.g. read-only, no copy features)?

Kindle and Sony are no good for detailed graphics, as found in tehnical guides, so are PC-based formats like .pdf being commercially developed?

I know that big $ can be saved if you do the correct formatting and graphics imbedding yourself before going to a self-publisher (hard-copy) service. Is the same true of e-formatting?

Are ther any specialist e-publishing houses out there?
  • Hi Eric...thank you very much for your comments. I will try to create more episodes about ebooks. If you would like to speak with me directly for some advice or help feel free to fill in the "Chat With Dale" form. thanks

Dale,My view is; books are headed for the same fate as Encyclopaedia Britannica.Technology destroyed ,that book publishing industry ,and relagated their product to been received free in a corn flake packet-on disc . Those in that industry thought it could not happen, but it did-Books will suffer the same fate, sooner than you think.
  • Agreed, but ebooks will be around for a while.
