Distribution Channel Management : Don’t Sell Your Book in Book Stores – Episode #032

Today Dale Beaumont explains why you book stores may not be the best option. Yesterday he explained why you would want to promote and sell your book into book stores.

In this episode Dale goes the other way and explains 5 reasons why you shouldn’t sell your book in book stores.

  • Dale,

I'll see you in Brisbane in a few weeks...your content is really helping me prepare to promote my book!

Would love to chat about a JV...

If you self-publish, do you get to make up a name for your own publishing house?
  • ruby
You are covering all the bases. Thanks again. It's becomming clearer to me self publishing is the way to go.
  • Great idea wit this series. It's the old thing of the more I find out, the more I realise I don't know a lot!
Fantastic; keep up the good work!

Hi Dale, great value and great presentation as always! I was just wondering whether it's possible (doable) that a self-publisher passes a distributor and negotiates book placement in bookstores on his own.

    Hi Dale,

You offered some good reasons! The previous episode and this one will help me weigh the advantages. Thanks!
  • Emma Lyons
Hi Dale, really appreciate you giving both sides! Obviously there are pros and cons to each and now its time for me to go away and have a think about how I want to position my book.

    Hello Dale,

I just want to say, nice episode. Keep up the good work.

Just a couple questions though: Who makes the choice of whether the book gets into bookstores or not? And what does the author do with the extra books returned to him/her if some (but not all) the copies were sold?

  • Connor
Most of these points it looks like are for like first time authors trying to get sales for their book. I have a question though. Let's say a new author is writing a series of books and gets a few out quite close to each other. Would the sales go up because its a series instead of a single title? And would people think more of someone that has more books on the shelf?
  • It is difficult to say for sure Connor, but my short answer would be yes!
  • bob mcfarlane
very intersesting. It is great to watch today's and yesterday's video and compare the two different viws
  • Welcome to GetPublishedTV.com Bob. Thanks for your comment!
