wow on the area whereas Terry, writes to people that maybe don't like to read. I can feel this book. Alot of times I am turned off because of the exhausting long chapters. Tired before I even get started, so you see I am not a big reader though I do read some. I like her strategy of shorter chapters.

I like her, she has a fun & friendly character. O and the stick man idea with the book is awesome, love the strategy there. I love how the children books was birthed out of her original writing and request. Hugs, hugs , hugs Terry.

    bless, bless
  • I can completely relate to what Terry was saying. There have been so many times when I have doubted my ability to write.

I agree that having a character is such a great way to communicate your message. I am using lots of images and characters in my book to express my message.

All I can say is just persist, keep doing it, because the reason is always bigger than the fear.

For those of us who are not from the UK or from Aussie land, you need to slow your speech a bit. I can't understand because of the accent. ESPECIALLY TERRY HAWKINS

OMG..Terry..I do the same thing..except I use gum cartons and napkins to write notes on..they end up in my top drawer or a box too..I go through them at the end of each month..and again in 3 months...or whatever paper is at hand..Terry is really well spoken on this topic..Thanks Dale for bringing her on. Always wondered how others organise chapters in their books.. cool idea with the post_its..Pretty solid demonstration of distribution !!

As usual this "couch" session was very informative and interesting. I like this concept of sharing and interviewing in an informal format.
    Great Stuff

This brought tears to my eyes seeing how Terry moved from resisting being an author and worrying about being judged as one, to becoming such a passionate author and finding such an important audience for her work in the children's books after pushing through and creating multiple books. Thanks so much Dale and Terry.
  • This episode was very interesting and engaging. I would like to hear more about Stickman.
  • Thanks Dale & Terry for this video. Very insightful with great tips to get started. Any suggestions on how to source illustrators suitable for children's books?
  • Thanks for your question. I will create another video to answer your question soon. Dale

Thank you Dale and Terry for this lovely episode!!

    Hmmm... "Don't judge yourself?"
Could you NOT have told me that 6 months ago???? I deleted 350 pages of the book I'd written last year :'(

Thank the heavens, I do still have the bare bones in my notes books (like Terry does) but how to put it together?? Do I make it 2 different books?? I have so much to say on various topics....... lol
  • I'm only just getting round to watching these videos and I'm loving them so far. I wish I'd had this information before I published my first novel, it would have made such a difference to the way I did things. Thank you Dale, I'll certainly be doing things differently with the novel I'm currently writing.

And thank you Terry for that wonderful tip on the Post It notes. I've been having a nightmare getting my thoughts in order with my first non-fiction book but that is a genius idea as I can move them round as I go if I need to.

I love GetPublishedTV.com and will definitely be recommending it to others.

Terry thank you for the idea on how to get one's thoughts coordinated. I usually struggle with completing my thoughts in order; and would be struck for a while just doing so even lthough I have an idea what should be in the parts to follow. Your three part method will really help me. I gathered that you state what you want be in the book. The chapters are named, probably not in order. Then at the side of each chapter, you state what goes into each one.

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to Terry. She has a lot of useful information to share. I especially enjoyed her information regarding her process. ~ Thanks Ruby
  • I enjoyed the way Ms. Hawkins discussed her insecurities with writing a book. Writing something others will want to read is an issue I struggle with as well. I have a book started, but struggle with the "what 'right' do I have writing a book" self-questioning, too.
  • Hi Robin, yeh a lot of people go through the insecurities and self-questioning but just like Terry Hawkins says you need to reserve judgement. If you would like to request a chat with me I can help and guide you through the process. Just like the "Chat With Dale" button at the top and fill in your details.

    thanks
  • That's a great idea with the formats and such...I really like this author!
