Writing my first book: the genre is personal development-inspirational. The content comes primarily from my experiences and observation. The intent is to educate and stimulate, rather than recount my personal life. The content does involve certain spiritual concepts, so I'm wondering whether a copy editor would suffice?

Thanks ~ Joyce

My book is set in the medieval era but I was thinking about having a few semi-modern things in the story, such as articles of clothing. Now since its not going to be exactly based in our history I might be able to get away with a bit but I know too much might bring the reader out of the story. And of course the content editor would hate me. I was thinking maybe of having zippers but that is probably too modern to work. Just have to think of something similar that sounds like it could have worked back then.
Oh and Dale I have a question for you that's a bit off topic and I'm not sure if you will know or not. It's about point of view. I'm writing in the third person and I've been wondering about how to describe some things. Like when the main character enters a room and sees, say, a statue, I would describe it through his eyes, how he sees it. The problem is I'm not sure how much detail to give out. Unless the character knows his stone, he wouldn't know if its carved out of marble or limestone. So unless I go into a "god" point of view while describing it, it would look like the guy knows everything about everything. I'm just confused on which way to go about it. I know nonfiction is what you do but I thought perhaps you might have an idea, or know someone who would know. Thx for any help you can give :)
